Current Fashion Trends
Posted by: | CommentsHere at fashion pulse we will have news, views and all the latest from the top fashion designers. Whether you are into High Fashion, Popular Fashion or just like to keep an eye on whats happening in the world of the runway models and famous fashion designers, then Fashion Pulse is for you!
What’s in your closet? Ah, don’t want to go there? Well, this may be because you’re not up to date on the current fashion trends. What is it with fashion anyway? People seem to conform to the rules like puppets. Okay, well maybe not all people. You may be one of the few who step outside the norm and dress however you like. Maybe you’re sporting those 80’s tapered pants, or that ever-cool mullet that was all the rage back in the day. If this is the case, then you’ve probably pretty much been ostracized by the world as a whole, but no worries. When it comes to fashion, it’s a nonstop universe of change. Although some trends are deemed ridiculous and out of date, many others re-emerge with flying colors. Whether you like it or not, it’s likely going to continue this way.
Are you up on the current fashion trends? This subject confuses me to say the least. I was a small child back in the 80s, and I have to say I remember it rather well. I saw the whole decade. From the pegged pant legs, to the jelly bracelets, to the big hair, and finally to the ripped-up jeans. Well, now it’s the new millennium and so much of these things seem to be coming back full force. Huh? Isn’t it too soon or something? Young girls are actually wearing the leggings under their mini-skirts again, and the shirts that hang off of one shoulder. I loved Flashdance as much as the next guy, but come on. It appears that the current fashion trends are simply to have no trend at all. Everything is back in circulation. The torn jeans are in every clothing store. It’s virtually all you can find. Is the big hair coming back next?
When it comes to the current fashion trends, you can’t just observe the apparel and accessories. You have to take a serious gander at the hair styles. They sort of go together if you know what I mean. Judging from the modern male, I would have to assume that 70s dew is back in style. Why else would anyone purposely resort to that floppy retro mess? Come on, you’ve seen it. However, if you’re not in tune with the current fashion trends, you can always take a stroll through cyberspace. Of course I mean with your eyes, not your feet. While this business of fashion moves forward as strong as ever, you may want to get a load of all the current fashion trends before actually deciding on a wardrobe.
Keeping up on current fashion trends is almost a full time job. It requires a lot of commitment to keep up on the latest look, but it is worth it. Anyone can wear t shirts and jeans every day, but to really look fashionable and attractive all the time is something that few can do. You need money and you need a good sense of style.
The hardest thing about current fashion trends is the fact that something that looks good one minute won’t look good to people the next. Remember those MC Hammer pants that everyone was wearing for a few months or so? If you even went out in those today, people would probably be laughing in your face. To take a more current example, sagging your pants may be a current fashion trend, but who knows how it will look to people in another year. It might just make you look like a slob who doesn’t know how to wear clothes that fit right!
That is why, no matter how into fashion styles you are, you need some evergreen clothes. What I mean by “evergreen” is clothing that will always look okay. Even someone like me who is obsessed with the current fashion trends also has some good, well-tailored designer jeans that will always look good with a plain t shirt. I can use fashion accessories to update the look to whatever is going on at the time, but I don’t have to replace the jeans themselves, because they won’t go out of style. It saves me a lot of money to have some basic clothing, while still allowing me to look good.
Half of the fun of current fashion trends is trying to figure out what they will think of next. Everyone knows that trends start with runway models dressed in strange and daring outfits that no one would actually wear out on the street. These sort of outfits are bold, and they are made to showcase a new idea in fashion and see how far the designer can take it. Even if they are not actually very practical, they are still fun to read about in fashion magazines.
I’ve even thought about being a fashion designer once or twice. I suspect that pretty much anyone into looking good and feeling great has this thought at one point. Just keeping up with current fashion trends involves such an element of really making your own look that it is tempting to want to take it to the next level. If I ever do that, I think I’ll move to London. Right now, it seems to be the best place for my favorite international fashions.
Australian style? teens?
Posted by: | CommentsI live in the US, and family are thinking about possibly moving to Australia in the future
From what i've heard, MOST schools have uniforms.
Do most kids wear there uniforms outside of school or do they change and dress in casual clothes while hanging out, shopping, etc?
This is what we wear out typically- http://i27.tinypic.com/zvvhuv.jpg
Is that anything like australian style at all? What is the fashion like there? compare/contrast?
not looking for rude answers that criticize americans either..
any more info about teen life in australia would help, thanks ![]()
That pic you have there looks exactly like any Aussie teen here!
Most schools have SOME sort of school uniform here, whether it just be a school t-shirt (most public schools) or a complete uniform set (typically private schools).
If your going shopping or hanging out straight after school, just wear your uniform! Unless you have a reason to, i don't think many people change clothes.
I don't think you'll have any problem with fashion, or fitting in. Just be relaxed and don't try too hard and everyone will love you! =)
wta to fine players for being too sexy on court during the australian open???????????
Posted by: | Commentshere's the article:
AUSTRALIAN Open referees will double as fashion police to stamp out skimpy outfits after Alize Cornet caused a stir with a see-through top at the Hopman Cup.Open officials have threatened fines of up to $2000 for any player caught flouting its strict dress code. The 18-year-old wore a short skirt and revealing, see-through top during a doubles match at the tournament in Perth. One of game's great players, Margaret Court, condemned her attire last night, saying it pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable. And Open officials said they would review the rising star's outfits ahead of the tournament from January 19 to February 1.Court, Australia's greatest female player, said: "I just don't think the tennis court is the place to be everything clingy and showing everything," she said. The three-time Wimbledon champion and winner of 62 Grand Slam events, said fashion had gone overboard."Women don't need to expose themselves so much," she said.
"You're good at something, you do it well, you can look so nice without needing to reveal everything.
"If they think everybody's looking at their body and they've got see-through and no bra (outfits), it would have to affect your game."
Australian Open referee Wayne McKewen said player's outfits would be scrutinised in Melbourne.
"They should be dressed in what we say is tennis attire," he said.
US champion Serena Williams, who played against Samantha Stosur in the women's singles at the Sydney International tournament yesterday, is another player renowned for her daring tennis wear.
crazy ha??
thoughts??????
This is absurd. I've seen the outfit. Yes the skirt was short, but she was wearing regular shorts underneath, just like Dementieva. It's not like she was wearing thongs. And if that top is see through, then something is wrong with my eyes, because I couldn't see through it. I wish I could.
If the WTA actually goes ahead with this absurd plan, they will end up kicking every female player out. And oooh Margaret Court doesn't like it. Surely she doesn't want female players to dress the way she did when she was a player.
Check out this pic of MC. How come she never tripped over in this thing?

On the other hand, here she is in a more provocative moment:

If MC played with modern rackets, she would realize that you need a bigger follow through in your shots. That little thing she was wearing would fly up over her head.
Buy Men's fashion products from US?
Posted by: | CommentsI want to buy some men's fashion for 24 – 30 age group from US because the current exchange rate between US and Australian dollars is pretty good.
Two questions:
1. Which websites are good with men's fashion;
2. Which of them ship internationally?
bluefly.com is a great site. Yoox.com also but I'm not sure if it is an American site. You can also try Neiman Marcus, Saks, Macy and Bloomingdales sites.

What is australian culture like?
Posted by: | Commentsim thinking about going there on an exchange student program…what do australians eat and what is the street fashion (pics would be great!) what do you do for fun and just, what is a normal day like? school and stuff? thanks!
also, would it be difficult being vegan (no meat, dairy, eggs)?
Hi! I live in Melbourne. I'm not too impressed with the other two answers – sorry folks! For one thing, "mates" or "sheilas" is NOT a greeting. We say "G'day" and Hi, Hello, Good Morning, Good Evening, like other English speakers. Working class people often call their male FRIENDS mates and sometimes they call females IN GENERAL Sheilas; middle class people use these terms much LESS often, especially sheila.
It is probably no more difficult to be a vegan in Australia than it is in any other Western society, but if you are staying with a family you'll have to ask them to cook vegan meals especially for you. In the big cities there is a vast variety of foods available at supermarkets and produce markets, both fresh and processed, including organic, vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, and so on.
Australians tend to eat a lot of Italian and Asian-style foods, as well as old-fashioned British meat and 3 veg. Aussies drink a lot more tea than Americans, and will mostly serve it with milk and two sugars unless you specify otherwise. They'll probably offer you a "bickie" with it (a biscuit!). They're especially fond of chocolate-covered TimTams, which are addictive!
Generally we eat cereal or toast for breakfast with tea or coffee, sandwiches or foccaccias for lunch with soft drink or flavoured milk. A lot of boys eat meat pies and sausage rolls, which you will probably find disgusting! They also cover it with generous amounts of tomato sauce (ketchup to you).
For dinner we often have pasta and salad followed by fruit or ice cream for dessert. A lot of Aussies enjoy barbequing steak, chops, sausages, and fish, which you also probably won't appreciate! We also eat a lot of stir-fry and rice, baked or steamed veges, and roast lamb. You could probably cope with a vegan stir-fry. (We often cook with garlic and chillies as well.)
High school starts at around 8:30 in the morning at most shools, and goes till about 3:15pm, Monday to Friday. Most students bring their own lunch or buy some food from the "tuck shop", a small shop operated inside the school, often staffed by parents, and providing a limited range of take-away foods. There is no sit-down cafeteria in most Australian schools.
After school most students catch public transport home and study for an hour or two, watch TV, swim, walk dogs, play computer games, and basically hang out like teenagers everywhere. Most Australian homes have a couple of big TVs, DVD players, sound systems, and leisure areas. The back yard and the lounge room are the favourite relaxation areas for most people, as well as the kitchen, of course!
Most homes have dishwashers these days but kids are generally expected to stack the dishwasher, clean their bedrooms, care for pets, and do other light chores around the house.
Most teenagers have their own "mobile phone" which is what we call a cell phone, and text each other a lot.
The fashions are probably exactly the same as what you have at home, as fashion is global these days. You probably know that Aussies are very fond of the beach, so bathers ("togs" in Queensland) are essential wear, along with "thongs" (on your feet, not your bum). By the way, a "bum" here is your backside, not a beggar or homeless person. LOL!
The style of life is very casual, and children never call adults "sir" unless they're army cadets! You'll find most Australians open and very friendly.
Our society is now VERY diverse, and getting more so every day: there are over 180 languages spoken in Melbourne, but there is very little conflict between ethnic groups.
The biggest cause of trouble in my opinion is alcohol, of which Australians are extremely fond. If you are over 18 you can attend a pub legally, although you may be asked to show proof of age. Your friends will "shout" [buy] you a drink, but you are expected to then return the compliment, which may entail buying drinks for the whole group [a "round" of drinks]. There is quite a lot of pressure to drink alcohol. Taxis are expensive, so young people usually share a car. There is often a "designated driver" to avoid getting busted for drink-driving.
In Sydney, Melbourne, and other big cities, there are loads of bars, night clubs, cafes, and restaurants, as well as frequent outdoor concerts and festivals, some of them free of charge. The Gold Coast, where Bindi Irwin's Australia Zoo is, is great during the day, with lots of fun parks and lovely beaches, but there is NO night life.
Byron Bay, on the northern NSW coast, is an exceptionally beautiful place to visit, and would also have lots of vegetarian/vegan food due to the strong hippy influence.
Have a great time!
