Is it true that the main ones would be; Gucci, Prada, Versace, D&G, and Armani?

(those ARE all italian, right?)

those are brands, not accual designers. many designers work together to create the line

Yes they are all Italian but only Armani and D&G (Dolce & Gabbana) are still head of their own design houses, although Donatella Versace heads up Verscae since Gianni's death.

There are Gucci, D&G, Armani, Cavalli, Versace, Valentino, Prada. All are italian and famous in Italy and in all the world!
